Leucovorin & Cerebral Folate Deficiency

At Pediatric Services 360, we offer evaluation for Cerebral Folate Deficiency (CFD) in selected children who may be appropriate candidates for treatment. CFD is a condition in which the brain has insufficient active folate despite normal blood folate levels, and it has been associated with developmental regression, speech and language delays, attention concerns, seizures, and certain neurobehavioral symptoms. When identified in the right clinical setting, treatment may support improved neurologic and developmental outcomes.

Our approach is individualized and medically guided. Not every child is a candidate for screening or therapy. We perform a thorough clinical assessment to determine whether testing is appropriate, before initiating treatment. For children who meet criteria, we provide folinic acid (leucovorin) therapy directly within our practice, with structured dosing, monitoring, and follow-up.

If additional specialty input is warranted, we coordinate seamlessly with pediatric neurology or developmental specialists to ensure comprehensive care. Our goal is to responsibly identify children who may benefit from this therapy—bringing thoughtful, evidence-informed treatment options into the primary care setting while maintaining the highest standards of safety and oversight.
